Louis van Gaal names two world-class signings Man United missed out on

The Dutch coach took over the reins of the Red Devils in May 2014 following David Moyes’ disastrous 11-month stint at Old Trafford after Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement.
Van Gaal made some big-name signings during his time at Manchester United with the addition of Radamel Falcao and Angel di Maria to the Red Devils squad.
Manchester United secured a top-four finish in their first season under Van Gaal in the manager’s first season at Old Trafford before a fifth-placed finish in the 2015-16.
The Red Devils won the FA Cup in Van Gaal’s final season in charge before he was axed and replaced to accommodate new manager Jose Mourinho.
However, Van Gaal has revealed that Manchester United missed out on two glamour names during his stint in charge at Old Trafford that would have excited the Red Devils supporters.
“I wanted to sign Hummels for Manchester United,” Van Gaal told Sport Bild. “But because at that time he was coming out of a poorer season, we didn’t do it in the end.
“I can confirm that I wanted Muller. But there was nothing we could do. FC Bayern made it clear that they would not sell him.”
Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table following a 2-1 win against Chelsea FC last weekend.
The Red Devils signed Paul Pogba in a club record £89m deal from Juventus in 2016.
