Mourinho fuels Pogba rift by praising replacement.

Jose Mourinho has showered encomiums on Scott McTominay, the youngster who took Paul Pogba’s place in midfield in the 0-0  Champions League round of 16 draw with Sevilla.

Mourinho started McTominay ahead of Pogba in the goalless affair at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium on Wednesday, prompting speculations that all is not well between manager and player and the United boss fueled the speculations with the way he has reacted with to the situation.

The Portuguese gave BT Sport reporter Des Kelly a hug in his Champions League post-match interview on Wednesday, apparently because Kelly asked him about McTominay, and not Pogba.

Mourinho said about the young midfielder: “He did everything well. He put lots of pressure on Banega, which was important to stop him to play. He was always comfortable - simple, safe in possession. I think he was brilliant.

“But I have also to say that in my opinion the midfield started really well. And then when Herrera came out Paul made a big effort to go into that dynamic that we need. And I think he had also a positive performance.”
