The Sun is reporting that the Spanish shot-stopper will want a significant pay rise if he is to commit his long term future to the Red Devils.
The same story says that De Gea wants to at least double his wages in any new contract with Manchester United.
It is claimed in the same article that De Gea earns around £180,000 a week at Old Trafford – but that leaves him some way behind both Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez, who is said to earn £505,000 a week.
The story cites sources close to the 27-year-old goalkeeper as saying that he wants to be paid “fairly” for his services at Old Trafford.
De Gea has regularly been linked with a transfer to Real Madrid and he came close to signing for the Spanish side back in 2015, before the move fell through.
The goalkeeper has been earning plenty of praise for his sparkling performances for Manchester United this season and he is now widely regarded to be one of the best goalkeepers in world football, following his move from Atletico Madrid back in 2011.
